Supporting, elevating, and advocating for emerging talent is the foundation of our approach. It is the key to empowering curious, aspiring, and emerging BIPOC talent with tangible, paid opportunities and active allyship.

Mentorship Programs

Directing Development

This program pairs emerging talent with established directors to direct campaigns, funded in partnership with Agencies and their Clients. The goal is to develop up-and-coming directors and their reels with paid commercial work so they are better equipped to compete in the field.

Train-to-Hire Positions

This program connects potential talent with existing programs focused on paid apprenticeships in all aspects of commercial production from casting to production managing to on-set technical positions to executive producing.

Production Experience

This program is focused on introducing aspiring and emerging talent to the many facets of commercial production. Working directly with established members of the production community (i.e., Director’s, DP’s, Producer’s, etc.), participants have the opportunity to observe and engage in the process for the duration of a project, from pre-production through to post. This program is intended to be self-initiated by production with support from Hire Higher.

Productions can reach out to talent through our Opportunity Board.

Workshops

Anti-Oppression Workshops

Without education and awareness, none of this work can be done.

In partnership with Parul Pandya at Community Impact Consulting and other DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) and community facilitators, Hire Higher helps facilitate customized workshops focusing on anti-oppression frameworks and intercultural competency unique to production.

Based on consultation, feedback, and scenario sharing, the seminars are tailored to the specific industry, interests and needs of the participants with an aim to:

  • Engage and empower those committed to creating equitable workplaces and fostering supportive allyship.

  • Provide knowledge, tools and advice for recognizing, processing and addressing anti-oppression, anti-racism and inclusion in the workplace.

  • Encourage open dialogue and active participation by creating a safe space to share experiences, ask questions, and explore the issues.

Educational Workshops

In partnership with BIPOC-focused film organizations, Hire Higher supports, hosts and develops workshops and events focused on providing insight, education, and hands-on training specific to the production industry. From addressing both the technical and creative aspects of cinematography to highlighting the unique aspects of pitching on a commercial project, these workshops are tailored to the unique needs of each organization and will be developed with collaboration at the forefront.
